Deck 2: Spirit Monsters OTK
8.24.05
First and foremost, I
would like to thank EVERYONE for sending me the “fix” on my
last article. Yes, Chain Disappearance can NOT remove your
own D.D. Scout Planes and that was my own mistake. Chain
Destruction on the other hand can. Thank you guys for
reading the article and sending me feedback.
My next deck that I’m fixing is a deck that I believe has
tremendous potential. It’s a deck that Luke has sent me.
It’s a deck based on the double tribute Fire Spirit Monsters
Hino-Kagu-Tsuchi and Yamata Dragon. I’ve actually made a
deck like this before but only as a fun deck but realized
this deck has more potential. I decided to fix this deck
because it’s not only a fun deck but a very competitive deck
too. His request was to make some changes to it and address
its issue about finishing off the game after the combo goes
off. Luke, hopefully you like/enjoy its changes.
Here’s Luke’s build of the deck that he sent me:
Monsters (17)
3 Hino-Kagu-Tsuchi
3 Yamata Dragon
3 UFO Turtle
3 Flame Ruler
1 Sangan
1 Cyber Jar
1 Tribe Infecting Virus
2 Berserk Gorilla
Spells (18)
1 Pot of Greed
1 Graceful Charity
1 Delinquent Duo
2 Upstart Goblin
1 Heavy Storm
3 Giant Trunade
1 Mystical Space Typhoon
2 Fairy Meteor Crush
1 Premature Burial
1 Swords of R. Light
2 Messenger of Peace
1 Snatch Steal
1 The Shallow Grave
Traps (5)
1 Mirror Force
2 Sakuretsu Armor
1 Call of the Haunted
1 Magic Drain
First and foremost, let me introduce to you guys what these
cards do.
Hino-Kagu-Tsuchi
Attribtue: FIRE
Type: Pyro/Spirt
Stats: 2800/2900
This card cannot be Special Summoned. This card returns to
the owner's hand during the End Phase of the turn that this
card is Normal Summoned, Flip Summoned or flipped face-up.
If this card inflicts Battle Damage to your opponent's Life
Points, your opponent must discard all cards in his/her hand
during the next Draw Phase before they draw.
Yamata Dragon
Attribute: FIRE
Type: Dragon/Spirit
Stats: 2600/3100
This card cannot be Special Summoned. This card returns to
the owner's hand during the End Phase of the turn that this
card is Normal Summoned or flipped face-up. When this card
inflicts Battle Damage to your opponent's Life Points, draw
cards from your Deck until you have 5 cards in your hand.
First thing you may notice is the double-tribute requirement
of these cards and the fact that they are Spirits (which
means you can’t Special Summon them and it leaves the field
after its effect is gone). Its something to address and Luke
used a very creative way to do it. Flame Ruler, a card from
the Flaming Eternity set, is perfect for these cards. It’s a
monster that is considered a double tribute summon if it’s
used for a Fire-type monster.
Also, Luke added in UFO Turtles to search out this monster
too. Very nice tech.
Also, he added in Fairy’s Meteor Crush to equip onto these
big Spirits to give “trample” to these creatures and
basically allow the monster to get its effect. He also added
in 3 Giant Trunades to not worry about Mirror Force,
Sakuretsu Armor, etc...anything that’ll stop its attack. He
even added The Shallow Grave to set up his tribute using
Flame Ruler.
He also tried to make this deck as consistent as possible
with 2 Upstart Goblins and found ways to “stall” into the
combo using Swords of Revealing Light and Messenger of
Peace.
Deck Fix:
Luke’s build is not a bad build at all. He addressed the
“problems” of his deck very well, but here are my changes.
I’d rather see this deck with 5 Spirits and 1 Sacred Phoenix
of Nephthys. Sure you want to draw one of the many Spirit
Monsters to generate great advantage but as you said,
sometimes you have a hard time finishing off the game. Well
I believe running Phoenix will help you do that. Also,
Gravekeeper’s Spy is one of the best cards for this deck.
It’ll set up the 2 tributes that you need AND it’s a wall
just incase you need one. Imagine just using Gravekeeper’s
Spy to search out another copy of itself and next turn doing
either Giant Trunade and/or Heavy Storm to tribute for 1 of
the 5 Spirit Monsters in your deck. It’s equally as good as
the Flame Ruler combo.
I also added Iron Blacksmith Kotetsu to search out the equip
card to give a monster trample. Now Fairy’s Meteor Crush has
no downside to give a monster “trample” but with 3 Giant
Trunades Big Bang Shot is a better choice. The 400 attack
might be the difference in ending games and Big Bang Shot +
Giant Trunade is a 2 card combo to end games. Also, it can
search out a Premature Burial and/or Snatch Steal. It
becomes another Ben Kai deck to search out its equips and
since using Big Bang Shot on one of the 5 tributes is
critical for it’s combo against Scapegoats and/or a
face-down monster, it’s a good fit. Remember even if they
get a Magician of Faith effect, or even worse a Morphing Jar
and/or Cyber Jar off, they discard all cards on their next
Draw phase. It’s a great combo.
To make more use off of the Big Bang Shot, I added in
another Spirit to go with the theme. Asura Priest + Big Bang
Shot on 4 Scapegoat tokens equals more than 8000 damage.
Spirit Monsters OTK? I agree ^^. Also with a metagame that
involves a lot of Scapegoats, it gives this deck another win
condition.
Now instead of the Messenger of Peace, I prefer to use Level
Limit Area-B in this deck. It prevents what Messenger of
Peace couldn’t (like Tsukuyomi, Don Zaloog, Exiled Force,
Mystic Tomato, Newdoria, etc...). Other creatures like
Spirit Reaper and Sangan goes through Messenger of Peace
anyways, it seems like stopping all sorts of monsters is the
best way to go.
Now I believe Thousand-Eyes Restrict might give you trouble
in this deck because you cannot attack with him on the
field. To address that issue, I added in Compulsory
Evacuation Device, along with the Big Bang Shot/Giant
Trunade combo in this deck. Also, Compulsory Evacuation
Device bounces back creatures on the field so it could give
you a clear field to attack with the Big 5 spirit monsters.
It’s like the 3rd Nobleman of Crossout that I would be
putting in this deck and/or the 3rd Sakuretsu Armor that I
would be putting in this deck.
Also, since you want the Big 5 spirit monsters to attack and
deal damage, instead of the Sakuretsu Armor, why not play
Magic Cylinder? It addresses the “ending game” issue and
it’ll give you a monster to deal damage into without Big
Bang Shot. Plus, if you have a Flame Ruler facedown on the
field, it’ll be safe from the attack without your opponent
knowing what it is. I also added a new card from the set,
Spiritual Fire Art – Kurenai. Now this card can be used in a
deck outside of this deck for the simple reason of doing a
lot of damage. This is one of my “tech” cards from the
Cybernetic Revolution set. I’m sure you’ll love this card in
this deck.
Here are all the fixes for this deck. Hopefully everyone
will love the fixes for this deck, especially Luke. Thanks
for reading and hopefully you’ll like its changes
