Under The Rose: Online Dueling
October 4, 2005

So I've decided to talk about online dueling this week. The decks that are being sent in aren't of grand quality to be frank, moreso this is a important topic that no one else has seemed to address...odd. Have fellow writers been avoiding this topic? I'm not too sure. But I figure hell, I might as well take it on.

YVD(Yu-Gi-Oh Virtual Duelist)-Or to some, Online Duelist's Greatest Asset

Once again, since I'm on this thing of being frank, I don't care for YVD. YVD to me is really only good for deck testing. Remember people, these are my opinions. I could careless if you hate me, love me, or don't feel any emotion towards me. If you created YVD itself or patches, I applaud you for your effort in making a caluable card database. Keep up your work, I'm sure various amounts of people still enjoy it.

So, why exactly do I dislike YVD? Many reasons.

Shuffle Issues

Mainly when the damn thing shuffles it shuffles the most broken hand to either you or your opponent and leaves the other player with a horrid hand. I've tried this plenty of times, and 9 times out of 10 it is a major issue.

Finding Cards and Building Decks

Of course, then you have the trouble of actually going though the card database and finding your cards...various cards shown in various rarity forms pollute the whole speed of putting the deck together. One rarity for the same card is fine, no one cares as long as they're dueling.

Inaccuracy of Card Stats

Yeah yeah yeah, so I've had a FEW troubles with this. I basically can let this slide mainly since most people know the stats of cards and such. The only reason it bugs me is the fact that newbie players get mislead...blah blah blah.

Downloading Picture Patches

So this really isn't a big deal overall either. But some people do care. I personally enjoy looking at pictures but it sure as hell ain't high on my to do list. But, it is annoying to have such trouble. Hopefully the YVD creators will eventually fix this, God knows...

CONCLUSION ON YVD:

Do I personally like YVD? No. I've expressed this once. But, despite its faults it does have perks, and I mean this in earnest. It's obviously how Max Suffridge worked his way up to the top ranks of the American Duelists. He won Nationals last year. He used YVD constantly. Go Max. YVD is totally how you see it in itself. You either like it or dislike it. You know my opinion, you may have another.

Online Duelist Rating: 5/10 (pending interpretation, its 50/50)

Quality (without pictures): 6/10

Quality (with pictures): 7/10

Overall: It's O.K..

            Hm....what's next?

Text Dueling- Or The Less Truthful Choice of All Time

I'll be honest with you, I use text dueling. Does this mean I cheat? Hell no! I will be completely honest with you when we text duel, I would not cheat against you since it serves no overall help for myself.

What do I mean by this? Let me explain. If one cheats whilst dueling online they are not teaching themselves anything. Nor are they learning anything bu doing so. For instance, let's say Lord Tranorix cheated everytime he dueled online, this does not mean he does, since obviously he is an honest person. Anyways, back to the point. By cheating online he is changing the possible probability that he could draw "X" card. Realistically he could have had the chance to draw it et cetera, but online he needed it to beat his opponent.

Why does this matter?

Say he went to a tournament a week later after cheating online constantly. He plays, assuming he'd do well and loses every single match.

Why?

Lord Tranorix was being reliant on cheating when he dueled online and now in the real world he's getting smacked around like a hobo in a bar fight. Once again, LT really is not an online cheating duelist.

Why am I still rambling on?

It's important for you all to know that cheating online is bad. In fact, it is probably a sin in some Japanese YGO handbook. When you cheat online, you learn nothing. You do NOT help yourself. And you obviously do not learn anything about your deck. I'm not saying you will go the Hell if you cheat online, its just stupid. If you wanna learn about your deck, don't cheat. Online cheating is a risky in ANY card game you could play online.

Online Duelist Rating: 10/10 (if you are playing with honest people)

Quality (with idiotic card abbreviations):6/10

Quality (without idiotic card abbreviations): 10/10

Overall: It's probably the MOST realistic and easiest form to obtain, given the fact you are not a cheater and don't play with cheaters.

So kids, there you have it. I hope you liked/enjoyed this article. I put some effort into it...so let's hope it was enjoyable...until next time. Later!
