Zealotpker's Deck Garage

11.27.04  Woah, 26 e-mails already. I tried to get back to you guys, if I didn't respond to you, I apologize. I'll try to get back to you if at all possible.

In an attempt to reach a larger group of people, I'm going to be making each review three sections: first a deck that I'm gong to revamp, then a deck that I'm going to be polishing up, and lastly, I will post a deck that I believe to be exceptional and post it up here.

First, we've got a casual "god card" deck from BlackFlareDragn:

well, welcome to pojo. I have a deck I need help making and I was wondering if u could send names of cards that'd be good in it and if you can check out my deck. well here it is:

Thanks for taking your time to look at it! ^_^

So you want a God card deck, eh...?

Ok, I'm game. Note that I'm obviously fixing this for casual play.

We'll focus mainly on setting up some tributes to get those god cards out.

I'm not going to be doing individual fixes, I'm just going to be assembling a new deck based on the old theme and explain each card (and try to keep it on a budget too):

Also, I'd just like to note that Scapegoat tokens CAN be sacrificed to summon God cards (this is because they are not a tribute summon but a special summon requirement, and so you can sac them to bring out Obelisk, Slifer, and Ra - but Ra would be sort of pointless).

Monsters: 19
[3] God cards
[2] Agent of Creation ~ Venus
[3] Mystic Shine Ball
[3] Nimble Momonga
[3] Giant Germ
[2] Cannon Soldier
[1] Witch of the Black Forest
[1] Sangan
[1] Magical Scientist

Spells: 15
[3] Scapegoat
[3] Stray Lambs
[2] Last Will
[1] Pot of Greed
[1] Graceful Charity
[1] Monster Reborn
[1] Harpies's Feather Duster
[1] Premature Burial
[1] Change of Heart
[1] MST (Mystical Space Typhoon)

Traps: 6
[2] Waboku
[2] Draining Shield
[2] Magic Drain

Here's the breakdown of the deck. Your traps were fine for casual, but your spells and monsters needed a lot of work. I basically just started over on the spells and monsters here.

Since you apparently want to keep the God cards, I went with that, then added in lots of ways to get them out: Nimble Momonga, Giant Germ, Venus + Shine Balls, Magical Scientist (use whatever fusions you can, main strategy is summon Scientist, summon 2 fusions, sac scientist and the fusions for a God card).

Last will just allows for more action on swarming stuff out to sacrifice, and all of the swarm monsters should be a big enough wall for you to survive off while you are waiting to draw into a god card. Cannon soldier is a backup strategy, where you can launch off tokens and other stuff for a finishing blow or whatnot. Consider replacing them with Newdoria though, as you are somewhat lacking in removal in this deck (and may want to drop the Draining Shields for Sakuretsu Armors).

Scapegoat and Stray Lambs both give you stuff to sacrifice for your god cards.

The other spells are just overall good cards that are easy to get and fit the theme of the deck or are just generic (good in all decks).

Hopefully you can have a lot of fun with that.

Our next deck is from "chaseghost91". He writes:

ok well this is a warrior deck the goal in the deck is
mass swarm and so far it works pretty well but i need
some help something i want to try to keep are the
solemns they are really useful for that jinzo or that
final attack well anyways thanks

monsters:18

1x painful choice
1x heavy storm
1x snatch steal
1x swords
1x NoC

traps:9
1x sakuretsu armor
1x magic drain
1x torrential tribute
1x ring of destruction
1x call of the haunted
2x solemn judgement
1x raigeki break
1x dust tornado

Well, chase, I think this deck has a lot of potential.

You say you want to swarm, and you seem to have the right idea. I think it's a bit inconsistent, though, so we shall fix that.

We'll first drop the Magician of Faith for a 2nd Blade Knight. It is much better in a swarm deck, as Magician of Faith is giving your opponent a turn to reverse the momentum.

Next let's fix the spells. You don't need Swords here, since you're going to be attacking the whole time. However, a Last Will or 2 might work nicely, so:

-A Forces
-Swords of Revealing Light
+2 Last Will
This way you can swarm even faster.

Now, for the Traps.

We want to get some consistency going here, so first of all, Ring and Solemn Judgment don't go together.

-Ring of Destruction
+Nobleman of Crossout

That way you can take care of all those pesky face-downs and continue with your attack.

We'll also take out a Magic Drain for a Dust Tornado.

Next, why don't we drop the Sakuretsu Armor for a 2nd Raigeki Break, as it's more versatile and there's a pretty safe bet you will have something in your hand to drop (like an early Solemn Judgment, or something along those lines). If those don't work, you can either double up on Sakuretsus, or Smashing Grounds, or Magic Drains instead of the Raigeki Breaks.

This should allow you to stop any monsters that are threats, or press an attack if you are going in for the kill.

Overall, pretty nice deck. Before, 8.4/10. Now, I give it a 9.3/10.

The revised decklist is:

monsters:18

1x BLS-EotB
2x blade knight
2x zaloog
3x dd warrior lady
2x marauding captain
1x tribe
2x mataza
1x exiled force
1x breaker
2x command knight
1x cyber jar

magic:14
1x warrior returning alive
2x reinforcement of the army
2x last will
1x pot of greed
1x change of heart
1x premature burial
1x mst
1x painful choice
1x heavy storm
1x snatch steal
2x NoC

traps:8
1x torrential tribute
1x call of the haunted
2x solemn judgement
2x raigeki break
2x dust tornado

On a final note, you may want to be playing Magical Scientist in there unless you have some reason not to (some people just don't like the hefty LP cost).

=======================================

And, our final deck, since I don't want to dig through my continuously growing inbox a third time, is going to be by yours truly (an earlier version of which did indeed qualify me for Nationals).

Deck Name: The Legacy of Zaknafein (yes, I'm a Salvatore fan)
Deck Theme: Chaos Metamorphosis
Deck Size: 40
Deck Format: Advanced
Deck Creator: zealotpker

Monsters: 18
[1] Black Luster Soldier ~ Envoy of the Beginning
[1] Chaos Sorcerer
[2] Mobius the Frost Monarch
[3] Spirit Reaper
[3] D.D. Warrior Lady
[2] Shining Angel
[2] Royal Magic Library
[1] Breaker the Magical Warrior
[1] Tribe-Infecting Virus
[1] Sinister Serpent
[1] Magical Scientist

Spells: 17
[1] Pot of Greed
[1] Painful Choice
[1] Snatch Steal
[1] Change of Heart
[1] Heavy Storm
[3] Metamorphosis
[3] Scapegoat
[2] Creature Swap
[2] My Body as a Shield
[2] Book of Moon

Traps: 5
[2] Compulsory Evacuation Device
[2] Magic Drain
[1] Torrential Tribute

Just as a side note, it's assumed that all decks with Magical Scientist in them will be running Dark Balter the Terrible, Thousand Eyes Restrict, Ryu Senshi, and Super Roboyarou at the very least in their fusion decks.

Here's how the deck works. I have a decent number of pretty chunky monsters: Chaos Sorcerer, Black Luster Soldier, 2 Mobius, and 2 Royal Magic Library. In addition, the Metamorphosis generally give me Thousand Eyes Restrict, and the Creature Swaps can get me big stuff too.

So I wait for that big stuff, then Book of Moon, Magic Drain, Compulsory Evacuation Device, and My Body as a Shield do a pretty darn good job of keeping that stuff alive and kicking (and doing some damage to the opponent, or at least stalling).

Scapegoats, Sinister Serpent, and Magical Scientist all work well with Metamorphosis.

Scapegoats, Sinister Serpent, and Shining Angel all work well with Creature Swap.

And the Shining Angels also allow me to get Royal Magic Libraries out face-up.

Trust me, those Libraries are really hard to kill and if you let them stay alive, then your opponent is going to be drawing at least a card or two.

I'm basically trying to get Card Advantage quickly, then defend my major threats until they eventually finish off the opponent.

======================================

Well, that's it for today, I'll be cleaning out my inbox and POSSIBLY teaming up with the other deck mech, SoFarSoGood, so that we can split the load and occasionally do dual reviews.

Until next time, good luck and happy dueling.
