The first time me and my friends saw this card,
we tried to fit one copy into our black booster
draft and sealed decks. Even though it costs
five mana to play, we were attracted to the fact
that this card was both an instant and Arcane.
We obviously also liked the idea that this card
could be
resusable. After playing with it a few times,
most of us changed our minds about this card,
deciding that it simply wasn't worth the
trouble. This card
MAY be good, but I think it probably looks
better "on paper" than it plays in reality. You
definately need a MUCH BETTER reason than this
card to go to
the trouble to keep more cards in your hand than
your opponent. Given that you HAVE other reasons
to keep more cards in your hand (and also the
ABILITY
to keep more cards in your hand than your
opponent) this card could still be
decent in limited decks.
In constructed, well,
it's hard to imagine that this would be an
impressive enough damage source to make the cut,
but then I've seen a LOT of strange cards pop up
in Gifts Ungiven decks. Anything is possible,
and Death of a Thousand Stings gets around a lot
of things, most importantly, effects that
prevent damage, since this card causes "loss of
life" and not damage.

Phoenix Tamer
Death of 1000

I'm not to keen on this card, one being that it
costs alot of mana.
for an ability that's not really that good. I
would only find this
useful if i was about to win and i had alot of
mana. Overall, not
really a good card. They could have done alot
better, i mean sure
people can use the new saviors cards that give
certain abilities for
the amount of cards in your hand, but come on,
it's to mana expensice
for a crappy effect.

Final Thoughts:
I say this card is bad, but for some people they
may find it useful,
if you can try to point it out to me, otherwise
to me this card is
pretty much useless.
A great idea that fits in with a few mono-black
themes, but at twice the cost. Death does a
great thing, but it is much too slow to be of
much use. Not many decks can take the drain of 5
mana per turn for only a 2 point life swing. In
casual, same thing, unless you're playing a very
slow environment and have a plan for some kind
of lock. In limited, I've found it much too slow
for the environment.
