Rhonas the Indomitable

In a correctly-built deck, Rhonas should pretty much always be able to attack or block - it seems like creatures with four power are getting cheaper by the week, and of course his ability can easily make one on demand. Even when he's not active himself, he's a good card to have around to interact with things like Triumph of Ferocity and Greater Good.

On a different note, I believe there was not an actual Egyptian god with the head of a cobra, which would make Rhonas something all Magic's own rather than coming from the source material. He seems like something you could actually see carved on the wall of a pyramid, though, and it fits very well with Egyptian mythology's interest in snakes.

James H. Rhonas the Indomitable (6/13)

3 mana for a 5/5 deathtouch is really cheap, though Rhonas isn't motivated to attack unless you have a big creature. Good thing you're in green, right? It's not too much to put Rhonas down on turn 3 and a suitable creature on turn 4...or pump a smaller creature up enough to turn Rhonas on. Pump and trample makes Rhonas threatening even if he never slithers into the fray, and it's not too hard to get a board state in green where Rhonas pushes your team to victory.
